653 donors supported the campaign of 12-year-old Deyan on PavelAndreev.ORG and raised €18,948.12.
Today, there is good news - the funds needed for Deyan's surgery have now been secured.
Deyan is 12 years old and lives with a severe congenital foot deformity. Over time, his condition has worsened - he limps, loses his balance, walks hunched over and struggles to remain steady on his feet.
His health problems began when he was still a baby.
At eight months old, a doctor detected a heart murmur. Later, Deyan was diagnosed with a genetic condition affecting the connective tissue, heart, eyes, spine and legs.
At the age of four, Deyan underwent major heart surgery.
For years, his family tried different approaches to help his foot - special shoes, insoles, exercises, swimming and rehabilitation.
But his condition continued to worsen.
During a consultation abroad, doctors found a severe, long-standing deformity and recommended complex reconstructive surgery to correct the bones, tendons and muscles of his leg.
After the procedure, Deyan will need a hospital stay, a cast and a long period of recovery.
These are the words Deyan said to his mother.
But his condition continued to worsen, and his family realized they could no longer wait.
That is when they started a campaign on PavelAndreev.ORG.
653 donors joined the campaign and raised €18,948.12.
On September 5, Deyan's mother shared that the family had now managed to secure the funds needed for his surgery.
Deyan still has surgery and a long recovery period ahead of him.
But today, one of the biggest obstacles facing his family has already been overcome.
Thank you to everyone who donated, shared the campaign or helped Deyan's story reach more people.
Sometimes a successful campaign does not mean the entire journey is over. It means the next and most important step can finally be taken.
