365 Donors Grant 21-Year-Old Melissa a New Chance for a Life-Saving Kidney Transplant

365 donors have successfully raised €22,063, securing the full sum needed for a life-saving kidney transplant for 21-year-old Melissa. Thanks to a compassionate community, after years of painful dialysis and a previously failed transplant, she now has a genuine opportunity to live beyond the confines of dialysis centers.

A Battle Beginning in Childhood

In 2017, as a young child, Melissa tragically lost the function of both her kidneys. From that moment on, undergoing hemodialysis three times a week became her grueling daily reality. Her youth was marked by frequent hospitalizations, emergency admissions, and endless medical complications.

In 2020, a ray of hope emerged when her mother stepped forward as a living donor, and a kidney transplant was performed in Turkey. However, following her return to Bulgaria, severe complications led to the rejection of the transplanted kidney, forcing Melissa back onto life-sustaining dialysis.

Hope Reimagined in Istanbul

Years later, hope has resurfaced. Melissa's aunt offered to become her living donor, and preliminary medical compatibility tests came back positive. The next crucial phase involves pre-operative preparation and the transplant procedure at a specialized hospital in Istanbul.

The required sum of €22,000 for the surgery and hospital care was completely out of reach for Melissa and her mother. That is when the power of community intervened.

Thanks to the rapid mobilization of 365 donors who contributed a total of €22,063, the campaign goal has been reached. Today, the path toward a successful second transplant is fully open for Melissa. Every donation, share, and message of support helped make this dream achievable, offering a young woman the chance to restart her life.
