My name is Chali Mulenga, and I am from Livingstone, Zambia. I am the Executive Director of the Building Bridges for Change Foundation (BBCF), a community-based organisation committed to empowering boys and young men to grow into responsible, respectful, and visionary leaders.
Livingstone is known as the tourist capital of Zambia, but behind the beauty of the Victoria Falls lies a harsh reality in the townships of Ngwenya, Malota, and Libuyu. Here, many boys grow up in poverty, raised by single mothers or grandparents who are already struggling to provide for their families.
🔍 The Problem We See Daily
Without positive male role models, many boys are left to learn from the streets. Peer pressure is powerful, and too often it leads them to:
Experiment with drugs and alcohol as young as 12.
Engage in petty crime and violence for survival.
Take advantage of vulnerable girls, resulting in early pregnancies and shattered futures.
When this cycle repeats, communities remain trapped in poverty and hopelessness. Girls suffer, families break down, and boys lose their potential before they even get a chance to discover it.
At BBCF, we believe that if we want to protect our girls and uplift our communities, we must mentor our boys. Boys are not born abusers, criminals, or addicts. They are simply young people in desperate need of love, guidance, and direction.
✨ Our Solution: Coaching Boys into Men
Through this project, we provide boys with mentorship and safe alternatives to the streets. Our programmes include:
Mentorship Circles: Safe spaces where boys can talk openly about their challenges, learn about respect, discipline, and responsibility, and gain life skills.
Sports Programmes: We use football and other sports to build teamwork, resilience, and confidence. Sports are powerful tools that attract boys and keep them engaged.
Substance Abuse Prevention: We equip boys with knowledge and strategies to say no to drugs and alcohol, and to resist negative peer pressure.
Positive Masculinity Training: We teach boys that real strength lies in respect, protecting women, and contributing positively to their communities.
🌍 Why We Need Financial Assistance
Our organisation is still young and grassroots-driven. We rely on volunteers who sacrifice their time, but we lack the financial resources to reach more boys and sustain our programmes. The demand is overwhelming—every week, more parents and community members approach us, asking for help with boys in their households who are at risk.
We are in this difficult situation because the needs are greater than our current capacity. Without financial support, many boys will be left without guidance and continue to be swallowed by the streets.
💵 How We Will Use the Funds
Your donation will go directly into transforming boys’ lives. Specifically:
$20 = Provides mentorship, life-skills training, and safe activities for one boy for a month.
$100 = Sponsors a football mentorship team of 15 boys, covering sports equipment, coaching, and life lessons.
$500 = Transforms a community hub into a safe mentorship space, where dozens of boys can meet regularly for guidance, workshops, and positive engagement.
Funds will be spent on:
Training mentors and facilitators.
Sports equipment (balls, kits, shoes).
Learning materials for life-skills and mentorship sessions.
Renting and maintaining safe spaces for activities.
Transport and outreach to ensure boys from underserved areas can participate.
🌟 Our Vision for the Future
We envision a Livingstone where:
Boys who once roamed the streets are now doctors, teachers, artisans, and leaders.
Girls feel safe because boys have been raised to respect and protect them.
Communities are filled with hope because boys have grown into men who take responsibility and give back.
This vision is possible, but we cannot achieve it alone.
🙏 How You Can Help
Every donation—big or small—makes a real difference. By contributing, you are not just helping a boy; you are transforming an entire community and rewriting the future of Zambia.
➡ Please donate today and share this campaign widely. Together, we can raise boys into men who will change Zambia’s future.
