Let's keep Mom alive a little longer... So we don't have to say goodbye now.

My mother is one of those women who gave of herself all her life - quietly, courageously, lovingly. She is the heart of our family.

Two years ago, she had bowel surgery. It was considered a routine abdominal intervention, but no cancer was suspected. After that she recovered and lived as peacefully as she could.

But two months ago we were given the worst news - advanced (stage IV) malignant cancer, with disseminations. Last stage. The disease had already progressed too much without being detected in time.

Weeks ago, her abdomen began to swell. It turned out that her surgery from two years ago had opened up. An open intestinal wound that was leaking fluid full of bacteria. The infection quickly covered her entire abdomen. The fluid turned green. An antibiotic kept her alive - but it no longer worked.

💔 The hospital in the Netherlands where she was admitted told us there was nothing more they could do. They will discharge her.

But we are not ready to say goodbye. Not yet.
