My name is Christina and I am Daria's mother. My daughter is now 16 years old. When she was almost a year old, we noticed a bump on her right foot. We went to the doctor and our ordeal started from there. It turned out that her bone had started to buckle. A doctor at the orthopedic hospital in Gorna Banya, Sofia, referred us to doctors who make splints. She has worn these splints around the clock so far, only taking them off for bathing. Without a splint it is categorically forbidden to step. Daria received her first splint as a gift for her first birthday. Over the years we have replaced over ten splints, which have changed as she has grown.

When my daughter was five years old, after a check-up and x-ray, the doctor said there was a complication and recommended that the child be treated now in Vienna at the orthopedic hospital there. We were so scared, treatment abroad... Everything must be done for Daria's health.

In the hospital in Vienna they did surgery. They sold a bone from the left leg to the right and put a cast on the left. They put a fixation device on the right one. After a while, again surgically, they removed the apparatus and we started again with the splints. Until last year, when deterioration set in again and the next operation followed. Again a fixation appliance was put in which she wore for almost a year. During that almost year the doctor recommended blood thinning injections. Daria did not allow anyone else to give them to her. She did this herself, like a hero. Then followed another surgery to remove the fixed apparatus, they put a cast on and after two months they removed it. Now my daughter has another splint.

Dear people, please help. Our family doesn't know yet what lies ahead for our daughter, but we believe in the good and have hope that one day the light will shine upon us.
