In the month when we open our hearts to charity and generosity, we invite you to support the elderly. In the dynamic world in which we live, our grandparents are our silent harbours, our roots and our strength and therefore deserve our respect.

Part 1 - dental treatment and prosthetics for 29 people

We cover 6 villages in the Zemen region - s. Gabrovdol, Elovdol, S. Smirovdol, Mureno village, Elovodol village, Elovodol village. Dolna Vrabcha and s. Gorna Vrabcha. The villages are difficult to reach, without public transport and some of them without a shop.

With the help of the mayors and the responsiveness of a dental clinic chain, which provides its own mobile office and team, we selected 26 elderly pensioners with minimum pensions, as well as 3 under pension age people living in extreme poverty. Some are single, others disabled, unable to set aside from their modest incomes to maintain their teeth, resulting in extracted or broken teeth.

For this reason, most of the elderly do not take nutritious solid food such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, meat because the condition of their teeth does not allow it for years. Their staple food is in liquid or mushy state. This leads to a lack of balanced food intake, which is a major contributor to a number of diseases. It has been found that healthy teeth or the presence of dentures reduce the risk of heart attack by 25%.

By fitting dentures and restoring these people's decayed teeth, we will bring back their smiles and self-esteem and make them healthier.

In November, the mobile dental office team conducted on-site, no-cost examinations in the 6 villages to determine what treatment was needed to fit these 29 people with dentures. The treatment will start in January and will take two months.

Part 2 - assisting 27 elderly households in Salash village

The mountain village of Salash is located in the municipality of Belogradchik, on the border with Serbia. It is an extremely beautiful area, but unfortunately one of the poorest in the country. Only elderly people live there. We have researched the needs and covered 27 households of elderly people who are hardly mobile, with minimum pensions, as well as several large families. We will buy and give them electrical appliances before Christmas to make their life easier. Some of these people will have a washing machine or a boiler in their household for the first time. We have arranged delivery and installation of the appliances to make it as easy as possible for the elderly.

Part 3 - we assist the Home for the elderly with dementia with. Salash

We also help the Home for the Elderly with Dementia in Salash village, which cares for 30 elderly people. Considering the characteristics of the home - persons with dementia - they need continuous updating of the equipment. For the winter period they need a drying machine (because of the cold weather clothes and linen dry slowly), as well as a boiler and a blender (they break often and food has to be mashed with a fork).
