Hi, I'm the mother of Daniel who underwent a complicated heart operation in the first week after birth.

His father and I knew about the problem during the pregnancy and were prepared in advance by some doctors for even the worst. The NICU responded very quickly and the surgery was successful, but unfortunately it resulted in the loss of sucking and swallowing reflexes.

Daniel was on ventilator for a long time, which according to us - the parents - also affected his vision. However, the doctors who examined him believe that the problem is congenital and do not give any hope.

However, we are adamant that we will not leave our son like this, and will do everything we can to give him a chance to see the world around him, even with just one eye.

So we contacted Ajibadem Hospital in Sofia, who quickly made contact with their colleagues in Turkey. After looking at the paperwork and photos, they confirmed that he would not be able to see with one eye, but a vitrectomy could be done for the other.
