Fundraising for two orphans whose lives were turned upside down in an instant

Borislava is 18 years old and finished 11th grade. Her little brother is 15 years old and is deaf with developmental delays. Less than a month ago their only parent, their mother, died suddenly. Their whole world came crashing down.

The two are left alone in a rent-free home they can no longer afford. Every day they travel from Orlandovci to the other side of Sofia and back to go to school. At her tender age, Borislava takes care of her little brother, studies, works and struggles to be the head of the family. She is smart and ambitious. She has a strong desire to go to university and study Bulgarian philology, but now all her plans are in doubt.

There is another big complication in their situation. Due to a confluence of circumstances, the boy cannot read, not at the level of his peers at school. His biggest problem is that he doesn't know sign language either. All of this needs to be caught up in order for him to achieve some degree of independence and to have the opportunity to work in a suitable job when he comes of age.

Our commitment is to support orphaned children to stabilise their lives without parents and provide them with better opportunities for the future. In the longer term, we will accompany Borislava in caring for her little brother, supporting her to successfully complete school, graduate and apply to university. We will also work to ensure that the boy receives appropriate educational support and the chance to gain skills for independent living and work.

This campaign aims to support children on the path of applying for council housing and covering their most pressing needs: securing a new home, buying everything they need for it and covering running costs. With part of the funds, we will urgently engage a specialist to work with the deaf child to learn sign language and catch up at school as much as possible.

Borislava has turned to our foundation for support and we will do everything in our power to alleviate her and her brother's situation. She is showing incredible maturity and responsibility in this difficult situation. They both deserve a chance for a decent future.

We are volunteers helping vulnerable children and young people, striving to provide them with conditions for personal development, preparation for school, guidance to a suitable profession. The Generation Programme team believes that together we are responsible for children and young people, especially those at risk or growing up without parental support. They have the potential to become full-fledged individuals and we strive to provide them with the conditions for an equal start in life.

All our activities in support of children are funded entirely by donations. It is therefore very important that more people respond to our appeals so that we can continue to help families in need.
