Teddy has multiple diagnoses - cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus, physical and mental developmental delays. A little over 2 years ago he had started taking steps with help,but his legs have severe spasticity in the muscles,as a result of which he crosses them and this prevents him from walking. After several examinations with orthopaedists and x-rays he was found to have luxation of 2 hip joints. We were referred abroad for treatment. We contacted Spiesing Hospital in Vienna and after an examination confirming his condition they scheduled a date for surgery - 17.01.2023.

We first tried to go through the NHIF for private coverage of the amount for the operation but we were not approved. I appealed and again we were denied funding on the grounds that the surgery could be performed in Bulgaria. The problem in this case is that here such an operation can be performed partially- now to operate on the joints and in a year the muscles. According to clinical indications, these operations should be performed at the same time, which can be done in the closest clinic in Austria. If only the joints are operated on and the muscles remain shortened - by the next operation there is a huge possibility that the joints will have returned to their original position and it will be unnecessary torture for Teddy and for us.

The operation is heavy - about 6hours, after which Teddy will be put in a plaster cast for a period of 6-7 weeks, during which we have to stay in Vienna because we will have to go to the hospital every week to monitor his recovery.

Each walk to the hospital and back is done by ambulance, which at last count 1 year ago cost 120euros each way. Separately there is the option to hire a wheelchair as needed( to be recumbent )which can still take him out and about.

The amount we have mentioned that we need is just the quote from the hospital for the surgery itself. Any help at this time would be more than invaluable to us!
