After the unforgettable day filled with bells ringing and joy, Gabby went back to her quarters. Days of rehabilitation and routine blood tests followed.

On 20.08.23 a platelet transfusion was required due to low blood counts. The transfusion went without complications and Gabby was discharged.

This was followed by a period of new blood count monitoring. When a rise was noted, Gabby underwent a series of investigations: CT scans of the lungs and of the legs at the hip area, leg measurements (to establish the difference in leg length) a review by a cardiologist who found an irregularity in Gabby's heart rhythm and decided to follow up with a Holter ECG, consultation with an anaesthetist and surgeon and the follow-up doctor.

After the tests were done and the results obtained, it was decided that Gabby would undergo surgery to remove the port catheter on 11.09.23. The surgery went as planned and without complications and Gabby was discharged the same day. This was followed by regular check-ups of the surgical wound and monitoring of blood parameters, as well as instructions on how the follow-up would be carried out once the treatment was complete.

We are happy to say that the pain from the surgery is subsiding and Gabby's blood counts are going up, which is why the doctors have given her the green light to return to Bulgaria. With this news, Gabi was ecstatic, as she was worried that she might spend this birthday (20.09.2009) away from her home and family. We are already working on arranging for her return. We will keep you updated.
