Another Step Forward for Yoana!

Five-year-old Yoana from the city of Haskovo, whom many of you already know, continues her journey toward a healthier, more fulfilling, and even more joyful childhood.
After more than a year of fighting embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, Yoana is now in remission – thanks to your empathy, donations, and support, to her own strength, her family’s dedication, and the expertise of doctors in Turkey.

She faced a new challenge and an important new step – several surgeries to lengthen her left leg, which lags behind in growth by about 4 cm. The reason is a medical intervention in early childhood that interrupted the bone’s growth.
On January 8, 2025, the first surgery was performed – a successful and complex 3-hour operation during which an Ilizarov apparatus was placed. Despite the good start, further surgical interventions, rehabilitation, and medical monitoring in Turkey are still ahead.

Good news came quickly – at the last check-up on April 14 2025, doctors confirmed that the infection is under control, the bone has begun to calcify, and progress is visible. Exercises and rehabilitation are now underway, and the next check-up is scheduled for the end of May.
