A Chance for Childhood: Kristian Begins His Recovery Thanks to Hundreds of Kind Hearts

Kristian is a child who has carried extraordinary strength within himself since birth. He is a long-awaited and beloved child whose first year passed in a silent battle with a rare and severe disease – aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC) deficiency. This extremely rare genetic disorder affects the production of dopamine and serotonin in the brain – vital substances directly impacting movement, breathing, and overall neurological health.

After months of examinations, anxiety, and uncertainty, barely a week after his first birthday, the family learned the difficult diagnosis. It came with pain, but also brought hope – a life-saving gene therapy.

On June 3, 2025, in Paris, Kristian underwent a 13-hour medical intervention, giving him the opportunity for a new life. The operation marked the first important step. Now, at 1 year and 8 months old, Kristian is starting his development anew – like a newborn, needing daily rehabilitation, speech therapy, physiotherapy, and long-term specialized care adapted to his condition.

In this battle, Kristian's family was not alone. The campaign for Kristian touched hundreds of hearts. Thanks to over 708 donors, the necessary amount of over  20,070 EUR has been raised, allowing the little hero to receive the chance he deserves – to move, smile, play, and enjoy a normal childhood.
