My name is Yordanka Yotova and I am the mother of the now grown up John who needs your help today.

John was born 17 years ago, a bit premature, but not that much. He weighed 2020 grams and everything went perfectly normal until his 11th month when he had his first febrile seizure. The seizures became more frequent and it turned out that it was not the temperature that provoked a seizure, but the opposite, the seizures provoked a fever, perhaps the so-called central fever. He was having seizures even at 37 degrees, which seemed strange to all the doctors I visited at the time.

It was decided that it was Epilepsy, so the medication was started. Unfortunately, they gave John a violent case of Pancreatitis at 4 years old, which he was barely saved from after heavy surgery. Given the Pancreatitis, the medication for Epilepsy was stopped, which in turn provoked the onset of Afebrile Seizures already. The epilepsy had become fully entrenched and it was probably already a genetic problem that has not yet been identified. Years of trials with various drugs followed. He was growing up, his dad and I were getting used to our different child and all we cared about was that he was happy and loved.

Sadly, last year Kovid struck down my husband, he passed away and I was left alone with John. Because of the epilepsy he was hypotonic, you know, more relaxed, more flaccid, but no way, those are the effects of anticonvulsant drugs too. He developed severe scoliosis, I noticed he was gasping more and more, he tells me his back hurts. I didn't wait long, the problem quickly became obvious and I consulted the best orthopedists.

However, because of the severe pancreatitis and the mention that I almost lost him then, and because of the severity of the epilepsy, which is still not fully controlled, I decided to consult one of the best orthopedists in spinal surgery in Turkey, Agyabadem Hospital, Prof. Ahmed Alanay.

The best possible procedure will be done for my only child, it will be with an implant in the spine, unfortunately however, a single mother like me already, cannot cope with the cost of such a procedure.

I am a midwife and I work in the Neonatal Unit at the Maternity Home. I love my job, but unfortunately, being alone with John, I only have to work nights. My elderly mother helps me, but she can only help me at night, sleeping around him and watching if a seizure happens.

With everything else, I am alone, so despite my pride, I have to ask for help and I really hope that you will look into my life through the words I have written and that I will be able to help my child live a good life without pain and without fearing every day if and when he will stop breathing from the pressure of his spine on his lungs.
