Buyesi Youth Initiative

My name is Doughlous Koche, I am a civil servant serving under the ministry of Justice & Constitutional Affairs in Uganda.

I founded Buyesi Youth Initiative in 2018 as a social responsibility aimed at transforming youths, households and rural communities through goat 🐐 farming. Owing to the fact that I had gained expertise in goat 🐐 farming through doing it, and yet the largest percentage of locals carry out subsistence farming that saw many languishing in poverty, I saw the need to introduce sustainable and commercial goat 🐐 farming mechanisms to change their lives. 

With the research carried out, atleast each household own 1 to 2 or to 3 goats, I noticed that if these people were trained intensively, they would have the opportunity to understand sustainable commercial goat 🐐 farming techniques and that the poor goat breeds would be improved. Furthermore, we would see many embracing commercial goat farming practices thus creating sustainable livelihoods. 

I registered Buyesi youth Initiative as a company limited by guarantee in 2022. Our vision is to empower smallholder goat farmers to achieve economic prosperity, food security and improved livelihoods through sustainable and innovative goat 🐐 farming practices in Uganda and beyond. 

What motivated me, was the fact that a bigger percentage of the locals own goats even when they are of poor quality, I wished to tackle the ever challenging problems that affected people such as food security issues, unemployment, etc and also build a model that empowers children to also be part of the program for a bright future. 

In 2025, we began empowering households through provision of scholastic materials, and other necessities. 
We have donated scholastic materials to 450 children, we have donated six goats and created six children goat 🐐 farmers. We are also holding Goat 🐐 farming classes to continue empowering children, so far we have 74 participants attending classes every Sunday afternoon hours. We are yet to establish sustainable feeding plans for our young farmers as they continue to learn sustainable goat 🐐 farming and management practices. We have established our simple offices in the village in order to serve people efficiently and effectively.
