Be Niel Jhoanne's Savior

“Mom, I’m going to get better, right?”

That is what my son Niel asks me as he lies in the hospital going through yet another round of chemotherapy. Then he asks if he can go home. He tells me he misses his older sister, his classmates, and his school.

And I am his mother. I have to be strong in front of him, even when my heart is breaking.

On March 9, 2026, our lives changed forever. Niel was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Treatment began immediately. What followed were hospital stays, chemotherapy, infections, dangerously low blood counts, blood transfusions, and platelet transfusions.

Later, we learned that the disease had relapsed, and then the doctors classified it as high-risk bilineal/mixed-lineage leukemia. Words no parent ever wants to hear about their child.

And yet, we still have hope. The latest bone marrow aspiration before his third cycle showed remission. But this does not mean that Niel is cured. His treatment must continue. He is currently in the hospital undergoing his fourth cycle of chemotherapy.

I stopped working so I could stay by his side. His father is a public school teacher and is doing everything he can to support our family, but it has become extremely difficult for us. The costs of treatment, medications, hospitalization, antibiotics, laboratory tests, and blood products are more than we can afford.

Please help me make sure my child’s treatment does not have to stop now, when there is still hope.

Niel is not dreaming of anything extraordinary. He simply wants to go home, see his sister, and sit in a classroom with his classmates again.
