Mental health: what it is and why awareness is important

1.What is mental health?

Mental health is defined as a state of psychological and emotional well-being in a person. Good mental health is characterized by a general state of high self-esteem and self-confidence.

When a person feels well mentally, they can work productively, enjoy their leisure time and be active. Through his or her activities, a healthy person contributes to the development and prosperity of the society in which he or she lives.

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines mental health as a state of well-being in which each person fulfils his or her potential. It is a state in which a healthy person's psyche has the ability to cope with the daily stresses of life. Amentally healthy individual can work productively and contribute to the development of the community of which he or she is a part.

Actually, do you know which month of the year is dedicated to mental health? Themonth of May is glob ally recognized as MentalHealth Awareness Month . Thegoal is to remove the stigma around mental disorders and provide support and information to those struggling with them through the activities that take place in May.

Often times mental health issues are invisible and overlooked. However, the truth is that anyone can fall into a state of stress, anxiety or depression. That's why it's important to know how to recognize these conditions and how to provide support to those experiencing them.

During Awareness Month, each of us can organise our own events, campaigns and training sessions that aim to address the issues surrounding mental health and draw public attention to its importance. Good ideas for activities around the topic of mental health are: organising fundraising campaigns for public lectures, workshops or creating online resources. Thiswill help people to be more aware and learn more about mental health and how to treat it.

Let us not forget that mental health is something that affects us all. It is extremely important at every stage of our lives. Good mental health allows us to function optimally and enjoy life.
