An implant in the heart equals a bridge between no way out and hope/AFR = chance at life.

Bedrie is a young woman, mother of three. She was diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a rare, severe and progressive disease in which blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries is severely elevated. This leads to strain on the right ventricle of the heart, and hence to right heart failure and severe oxygen deprivation. Every step of movement in Bedrie's daily life is associated with severe shortness of breath.

After much wandering between doctors and misdiagnoses, Bedrie was confirmed to have an idiopathic form of pulmonary hypertension - the disease has no clear cause but is life-threatening. In Bulgaria, therapy is limited, and her condition is worsening despite treatment with available medications.

Her only real option for survival and improved quality of life is the insertion of an AFR (Atrial Flow Regulator) device, a small implant that creates a controlled opening between the two atria of the heart. This allows some blood to flow from the right to the left atrium, reducing pressure in the pulmonary circulation and relieving symptoms - severe shortness of breath, dizziness, seizures and cardiac fatigue. The intervention is a life-saving INNOVATION that is fortunately performed in our country but not paid for by our health care system.

Through a campaign at the Pavel Andreev Foundation, we her family, relatives, and friends are asking anyone who understands the problem to get involved. The funds raised will go towards the purchase of the AFR device.

Without it Bedrie has no chance to live.

Every dollar donated gives her a chance to see her children grow up, to breathe, to move, to live without the constant fear of sudden cardiac collapse.
