My name is Yordan Georgiev, 43 years old. The story of my illness has developed so quickly that I still find it difficult to make sense of it.

In March 2025, I started experiencing stomach discomfort and abdominal pain. I assumed it was simple gastritis. After numerous tests - blood samples, ultrasound, scan, colonoscopy, two biopsies - I was faced with the dreaded diagnosis: adenocarcinoma (tumor) of the rectum with metastasis to the liver. The tumor had progressed without me feeling any symptoms. The only option at that stage was chemotherapy. I went through 4 tough courses - my strength left me, I was getting swelling in my abdomen and legs. The lack of co-ordination and communication between different departments and specialists in the same hospital meant I had to seek information myself about what doctors I should consult and wait for them in the corridors to ask to see them. This lack of a holistic approach resulted in the delay of several important medications for my condition.

I decided to seek a second opinion in Turkey and the doctors there gave me hope that they could help me. Treatment is expensive and goes through several stages - chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery to remove the tumour.

The price to be paid for the first stage alone is €50 000.
