A Hand for Malawi: Let’s Help Widows Survive

A group of women in the heart of Malawi is fighting for survival—let’s not leave them to face this battle alone.

These are the widows of the Mchinji district. Women whom life has tested in ways no one should ever have to endure. From the moment they lost their husbands, they have been fighting a daily battle against poverty, hunger, and social isolation—struggles that put the future of their children at constant risk.

Since 2015, we have tried to be their pillar of support. These women possess incredible patience and strength—they care for their children and grandchildren day and night, even when they lack the most basic necessities. They wrap them in love and stay awake when their children cry from hunger, doing everything in their power to keep them alive in a harsh environment.

So far, thanks to the support of well-wishers and a successful campaign, we have been able to reach 15 women. But the path ahead now exceeds our current means. We need support to increase this number to 30 mothers and grandmothers who are waiting for their chance. This stage is critical because it will determine whether these families sink into destitution or receive the tools and seeds to grow their own way out of poverty.

The cost of agricultural equipment, seeds, and securing sustainable production is more than our small community can bear. That is why today we turn to all people of goodwill with a plea that is heavy, yet filled with hope: Please, help us.

Every donation—large or small—is a spark of light that can restore the dignity of a widow. Every share is a chance for someone else to reach out a hand to Malawi. These women deserve a chance. They deserve to see their children fed. They deserve a life without the fear of tomorrow.
