It was exactly 8 years ago. I remember that day like it was yesterday. An examination with a gynecologist gave the grave verdict - cervical cancer. Conizations followed, a total hysterectomy, but unfortunately the doctor who operated on her made the decision to leave her ovaries in so she wouldn't suffer a severe hormonal breakdown. This played a bad joke, because after 4 years and 8 months, shortly before the cherished 5 full years of remission, the cancer returned in full force, this time choosing the colon.

Again surgery, chemo, therapies, anguish and struggle followed. I survived. And this time he survived, despite the dire prognosis of the doctors. He continued to do chemo once a year for 2-3 years, cancer cells appeared, but chemo managed to clear them. The cancer went into his stomach and intestines. 6 months ago, after another treatment, things started to get worse.

Metastases slid down the lining of her stomach and are now pressing on her esophagus and she can no longer eat. Doctors in Turkey are giving hope for the situation to change.

In Bulgaria, everyone has raised their hands, even in the hospital wards saying. We can't help..." And she is only 42. It's hard to know that nobody wants you anywhere. Iva is alone. She has no one by her side, no living parents, only us - her friends. We fight tooth and nail for her life because she has to live.

I have known her for 16 years, she has helped more than one or two people over the years. She is part of our organization "Pass It On", which helps nursing homes in Bulgaria and people with disabilities every month. And what an irony...
