My name is Desislava and I am the mother of Marty, who is 18 years old and battling a rare cancer.

At the end of November 2021, my son, then 16-year-old Marty from the town of. An active athlete, he was diagnosed with a rare type of tumor called Ewing's Sarcoma. The diagnosis was made in May. December 2021, after an emergency neurosurgical operation at the University Hospital "St. George". The patient was diagnosed at the University of St. Mary's Hospital in St. Mary's. The child was paralyzed from the waist down. Chemotherapy was started in the same health facility and five courses were conducted.

Unfortunately, in mid-April 2022, it was found that the tumour had not responded to treatment, metastases had already appeared and we were offered to continue with chemotherapy without a clear prognosis. The lack of quality and adequate treatment, led us to seek an alternative option abroad.

A clinic in Istanbul responded very quickly, offering us a comprehensive treatment methodology and giving us hope that the child could be saved. On 21.04.2022, Marty started his treatment thanks to the thousands of kind people who responded to our call for help. Six courses of intravenous chemotherapy, four main courses of radiotherapy, single infusions and oral chemotherapy were given.

Midway through treatment, the underlying tumor that was located in her spine became inactive and Marty walked normally. The fight continued with the metastasis to the lungs.

Our stay in Istanbul lasted nearly a year, and we only went home once, for not even a week, because in addition to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, he was constantly infused with platelets and other essential blood components, as Marty was very exhausted from the long battle with the insidious disease.

At the end of March 2023, Marty underwent emergency surgery, a perforation of his small intestine. The cause of the hole was the heavy chemotherapy administered to treat the tumor, as well as the long-term use of the remaining medication.

After the surgery in early April 2023, we went home with a small break from the chemo and then Marty continued the oral chemo at home until the next follow-up.

In early June 2023 we came to Turkey for control imaging. We received not very pleasant news from the attending physician. Small sized newly formed metastases were found in the lungs. This necessitated staying in hospital for treatment, and treatment was prescribed with intravenous chemotherapy and a new type of oral chemotherapy tablet.

Four courses of chemotherapy were given from this protocol. After the imaging tests, the treatment team decided to change the treatment as the results were not very good.

As of mid-March 2023, treatment continued on another protocol of intravenous chemotherapy. Immunotherapy was also included, as well as a new type of oral chemotherapy tablets. Two courses of chemotherapy were done, which gave a good result, with at least six chemotherapy treatments planned. It all depends on the follow-up imaging tests, which will be done periodically, and radiotherapy may also be included.

Ewing's sarcoma is a rare, severe cancer. It is a long and difficult fight, but also an expensive one.

What lies ahead, in terms of treatment and how much money will be needed is unknown.

In order to continue the treatment Marty has started, funds are needed that are unaffordable for me, as a parent who takes care of my child alone and only twenty days before he was diagnosed and operated on, I also underwent oncological surgery in a metropolitan clinic diagnosed with a kidney tumor.I, as Marty's mother, am appealing for support so that I can save my child.
