After many complications and prolonged treatment, Nikoleta's condition allowed for the life-saving surgery of the brain tumor. It took place on 17.10 and lasted about seven hours. You might believe that those were the worst hours for us - waiting in the unknown is a nightmare! My mother waited in near unconsciousness in the waiting room outside the operating theatre for news, and I kept my eyes off the phone and winced at every ring. Finally came the happy news - my sister had survived, about 85% of the tumor had been removed! The first critical 24 hours passed. Our hopes grew with each passing minute. The MRI done showed no bleeding in the brain.

However, Nikki's condition was constantly changing. Her vision deteriorated sharply, her left arm went numb, and severe stomach pain appeared. This necessitated further investigations - a brain CT scan and gastroscopy. We feel like on a seesaw - now upstairs with happy smiles at good news, now downstairs overwhelmed by new fears.

The costly antibiotic treatment for the pneumonia, which is still not completely cleared up, continues. We are also awaiting the histological and molecular results to find out the type of tumour. When we get it, the doctors will draw up a treatment plan and we will know what medication and how long it will need to be treated.Then we will find out the amounts for the follow-up treatments, and in the next few days we will get a quote for the radiotherapy. Nicky's treatment will continue indefinitely and necessarily in hospital under constant observation. Unless something goes wrong. A big additional worry for us is the fact that the amount raised is melting very quickly. We have achieved a lot so far. She is fighting for her life with all her strength.
