A little hero needs your help

Baby Eliza was born on March 31, 2025 and had two life-saving esophageal and stomach surgeries on her first and second days after birth. The doctors at Pirogov performed a miracle and today she is a smiling and happy child.

Later, after appointments at the pediatric urology department at Pirogov, it was discovered that she had only one kidney - the right one.

After her successful recovery over the summer, it was time to tackle the next problem - a very rare anomaly of the right hand - the so-called "Club Hand" or congenital absence of the radius and thumb.

In consultation with the world's leading orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Paley, in Poland in August 2025, the following treatment plan was devised including 2 hand surgeries:

The first surgery will be performed after the age of 18 months and will include Ulnarization - repositioning of the hand and wrist bones on the little finger side with a surgical incision and Dorsal tendon repositioning (FCU) for stability with shortening of the ulna to create a strong and stable joint. Fixators need to be placed for temporary arthrodesis of the wrist. Under the same anaesthesia, the thumb of the left hand was operated on due to instability of the ulnar collateral ligament by reconstruction of the UCL and osteotomy of the first metacarpal with widening of the interphalangeal space.

The second operation was three months later and involved removal of the external and internal fixators of the right wrist and displacement of the index finger, which would serve as a thumb - the so-called polysization.

In order for our child to have a full life and an optimally functioning hand, albeit with only 4 fingers, we need your help and support.
