Here's how the treatment in Turkey works - STEP BY STEP

When the time comes to make a final decision about having treatment in Turkey, surely everyone feels tension. Although medicine there has a very good reputation, worries are inevitable. The better prepared one is, however, the less tension there will be - one will simply know at any moment what to expect.

Request a clinic visit

Before you start treatment in Turkey, you need to orientate yourself in which hospital it is best carried out. Research as many details as possible before making your choice. It is also important to be familiar with the prices of the treatment. If you're not familiar with hospitals in Turkey, you might find our resource Everything you need to know about cancer treatment in Turkey useful.

In case you have a health problem and wish to consult specialists regarding your diagnosis and treatment, feel free to send your medical records. Most clinics offer this service free of charge. You will receive a second medical opinion based on your records. This service is performed within 3 days. Usually, the respective hospital encloses with it an estimate for further tests and treatment.

Once you have made a decision about treatment in Turkey, contact the clinic directly and arrange a date for examination or admission for treatment. Once this has been done, you can start to consider your travel there and back, and also your accommodation - in general, any potential costs. This way, you will finalise your treatment plan in Turkey.

Arranging a trip for treatment in Turkey

There are various options on how to get there. You can use the train, bus, plane, private car or specialised medical transport (ambulance and others). It is good to know that if you use public transport, you should not worry about how you will get to the hospital. All good clinics offer a free shuttle service between the airport, bus station, train station and hospital. Of course, you will need to send them information about the place and time of arrival in advance.

If the patient wishes to travel with a companion, transport can also be arranged. If necessary, some hospitals also provide assistance by air or ground ambulance.

Arranging accommodation for treatment in Turkey

The diseases that are successfully treated are many, but patients seem to resort there most often for cancer treatment and organ transplantation. The prices are much cheaper compared to those in European countries and the results are second to none.

When the time comes for admission to hospital, the patient will be placed there. Before and after that, however, if he or she needs to be in Turkey for some time, he or she will have to be accommodated in a hotel. During the stay in hospital, one companion is provided overnight.

Communication in mother tongue

Medical translations are a very responsible and specific thing. All hospitals employ interpreters specially trained to interpret in a hospital environment. In addition to applying terms competently, they are also familiar with the cultural expectations of patients. They strive to ensure their complete comfort.

Medical registration and examinations

Initially, a registration form in the native language is required. The patient receives a medical passport. Quite a few hospitals provide a wristband with protocol number, country and language from the patient. The patient wears it throughout the hospital stay, and it is important and guiding for all procedures to be performed.

The patient is introduced to the attending physician and nurses. He is then given information about the doctor's prescribed method of treatment. This is followed by full laboratory tests.

Medical treatment

Once the results of the tests are taken into account, treatment could be carried out in two ways: inpatient or outpatient. There are hospitals that have rooms that are specifically set up for outpatient treatment. Patients are accommodated there after chemotherapy and radiotherapy, for example. If there is a need, further tests are carried out to confirm that the patient's state of health makes it possible to undertake drug therapy. When the results come out, this completes the outpatient process. The patient then also receives a new wristband designed for hospital placement.

Payment for medical services and prices

Many patients are interested in the cost of a kidney transplant in Turkey. It is relative, depends on a number of things, but it is certain that the success rate is really high. However, by choosing treatment in Turkey, you should know that you will really feel taken care of - every patient is met with due respect at every step of the treatment, no matter what their ability to pay. Good communication about financial terms is one of the clinics' priorities. The patient should know very well what costs await him, and this rule is indeed respected.

A detailed inventory is provided of the procedures and medicines that will be administered in the treatment, and also the cost of the patient's stay and that of his relatives. Payment terms are discussed with the patient so that he can plan his stay in advance. If the amount turns out to be higher, the patient has the option of organising a charity campaign and thus raising the necessary funds.

Patients have the option to pay the cost of medical services in cash, by credit cards or by bank transfer. If you are planning to use a bank card to pay for treatment in Turkey, make sure you increase your daily limit before you leave Bulgaria to avoid any unforeseen situations.

Medical insurance

Quite a few hospitals have contracts with a number of international insurance companies. Patients who have international health insurance should provide an insurance policy to the International Services Department, who will contact the insurance company to confirm the terms of payment according to the provisions in the hospital's contracts.
