My name is Olena Arkhipenko, and I am the mother of 17-year-old Sofiia Spektor from Vinnytsia, Ukraine. Our family has found itself in an extremely difficult situation due to the war in Ukraine and my daughter’s serious illness. I am reaching out with a heartfelt request for financial support so that we can continue her life-saving treatment.

At the end of April this year, Sofiia suffered a knee injury. In early May, she began to complain of pain. An X-ray taken in Ukraine was mistakenly interpreted as a patella fracture, and she was prescribed immobilization. Unfortunately, this diagnosis was incorrect.

By the end of June, the pain had worsened, and an MRI revealed a suspicious mass. On July 10, a biopsy was performed, and on July 29 the results confirmed the diagnosis — osteosarcoma. The incorrect initial diagnosis allowed the tumor to progress rapidly.

After the biopsy, Sofiia’s condition deteriorated sharply: she stopped walking and could no longer put weight on her leg. On August 3, we traveled to Israel for further examinations at Assuta clinic under an official medical invitation. There, PET-CT and repeat biopsy confirmed the diagnosis: aggressive osteosarcoma of the left femur (Stage II) with metastasis to the inguinal lymph node.

We immediately consulted Professor Dror Levin, a leading pediatric oncologist, who emphasized the urgent need to begin treatment. On August 26, Sofiia was admitted to Ichilov Hospital, where she began her first course of chemotherapy.

According to Professor Levin’s treatment protocol, the therapy is expected to last about one year and includes:

10 weeks of intensive chemotherapy,

surgery to remove the tumor and replace the affected part of the femur (if the patella is not involved),

4 additional cycles of chemotherapy,

preventive treatment with Mepact to reduce the risk of lung metastases.

I am a single mother, and here in a foreign country, far from home, it is unbearably difficult to cope alone with such an expensive treatment. But it is here, in Israel, that Sofiia has a real chance for recovery and life. Every day matters, and I am doing everything in my power to fight for my daughter’s health, but the financial burden is far beyond my means.

The average cost of treatment is estimated at about € 700,000:

surgery — €100,000,

6 courses of chemotherapy (if all goes without complications) —€300,000

The cost of the biological drug to prevent lung metastases is €7,000 per injection. A total of 48 injections are required — €336,000.

Therefore, with deep hope and a mother’s plea, I am asking for your help. Your support will give Sofiia the chance to complete her treatment, defeat this disease, and return to the life that both war and illness tried to take from her.

I am ready to provide all medical records, treatment protocols, and invoices upon request.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your attention, understanding, and compassion. Any help you can provide will be life-saving for my daughter.

With sincere gratitude and hope,

Olena Arkhipenko
